The Trump administration told former White House counsel Don McGahn not to turn over documents subpoenaed by congressional investigators, escalating a battle between the two branches of government.
Former White House Counsel Don McGahn was told not to turn over documents subpoenaed by congressional investigators.
McGahn has emerged as a central figure in Mueller’s investigation into whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice, providing a detailed account to Mueller about an attempt by Trump to have Mueller removed from his post. The White House gave McGahn permission to speak with Mueller. “The White House provided these records to Mr. McGahn in connection with its cooperation with the special counsel’s investigation and with the clear understanding that the records remain subject to the control of the White House for all purposes,” Cipollone said.
