The briefing information was similar to that given to traditional news reporters over the past week or so. Officials gave an overview ofas well as where the U.S. sees the conflict heading in the near future. Officials took about seven questions, the official said. Administration officials view such influencer-produced content as one of the important ways that Americans—especially younger Americans—are learning about the war and its progress. The official noted that digital creators have produced explanatory content on Ukraine that has gotten millions of views.
The official also said the Russian government has begun paying TikTok creators to generate materials that are pro-Kremlin. That makes U.S. briefings for social-media influencers a critical tool, the official said.
