As the offseason changes continue, the Chronicle looks at the Texans’ top 15 unrestricted free agents, ranking their chances of staying or leaving on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the most likely to stay and 1 the least likely.Akins went from being cut from the Giants’ roster last offseason to the most productive tight end for the Texans. He caught the game-winning touchdown pass and ensuing two-point conversion against the Colts in the season finale. That might have cost the Texans the No.
This was one of their issues last year. The Texans needed a third-down back and someone who could help take the load off Dameon Pierce. But outside of Pierce, that never materialized. Burkhead was used mostly on passing downs. And when Pierce got hurt, the Texans struggled to find someone adequate enough to fill in for him. They’ll likely look to upgrade next season.
