Not only are there a few ex-Seahawks in the United Football League, a Super Bowl champion Seahawk is now an assistant coach!
The United Football League is back for its third season, and there are plenty of notable changes to teams and rules. Spring football means zany experimentation, such as no punting once you cross midfield , four-point field goals from 60+ yards out, and going for three points from the 8-yard line.
There are eight teams, with the Louisville Kings, Columbus Aviators, and Orlando Storm replacing the Michigan Panthers, Memphis Showboats, and San Antonio Brahmas. As you might have already expected just off the title of this article, I’ve combed over the up-to-date rosters for every team to see which former Seattle Seahawks are playing in the UFL. You never know if a strong UFL performance can turn into another NFL contract! Played at least one Seahawks regular or postseason game * WR/KR Laviska Shenault Jr . I know Shenault has Seattle’s first kick return touchdown under the “dynamic kickoff” era, but the less said about his brief time with the team in 2024, the better. * WR/PR Easop Winston Jr . A preseason darling who was with the Seahawks for two seasons, Winston had one regular season showing in 2023 against the Arizona Cardinals. Winston was on the Ottawa Redblacks CFL practice squad last season. * OL Raiqwon O’Neal . Hey! Remember when O’Neal was signed by the Seahawks as a backup tackle option in 2023? He played three games and had four offensive snaps to go along with 19 special teams reps. O’Neal has yet to appear in an NFL regular season game, having returned to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice squad in 2024 before a short stint on the Atlanta Falcons PS. This is O’Neal’s first UFL season. Was on a Seahawks training camp, practice squad, and/or preseason roster * CB Lance Boykin . Boykin joined Seattle as a UDFA in 2023 and spent his rookie year on the practice squad. He was let go from the PUP list the following year and is in his second year in the UFL, having recorded 21 tackles and 5 PBUs with the defunct Memphis Showboats. * DL Walter Palmore . Palmore is a 2021 UDFA who didn’t make it through Seahawks preseason as a rookie. Palmore played two seasons with Michigan in the old USFL, got an NFL contract with the Carolina Panthers, returned to the Michigan Panthers in the UFL, and now he’s in Columbus. Did you know the Columbus head coach is Ted Ginn Jr? It’s true. * OL Tremayne Anchrum Jr . One of John Schneider’s many inexpensive offensive line signings in 2024, Anchrum didn’t even make it to preseason before he was let go. Anchrum bounced around four other NFL teams before signing with a UFL team. * OL Mike Novitsky . Before there was Bryce Cabeldue, Mike Novitsky was the former Kansas o-lineman on the Seahawks roster. He was off-and-on Seattle’s practice squad in 2024 and ultimately waived last April after signing a reserve/future contract. Dallas represents Novitsky’s first post-Seahawks signing. * WR Cornell Powell . Powell chilled on the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad for nearly four seasons before a short stint on Seattle’s PS late in 2024. He signed a reserve/future deal but was waived a month later. Powell had a league-leading seven touchdowns in his UFL debut last year with DC. * WR Ty Scott . Similar to Powell, Scott started his NFL career in Kansas City before going to Seattle, but Scott didn’t make the Chiefs PS in 2023 and went straight to DC in the UFL. Seattle brought him on board before 2024 preseason, waived him during cutdown days and only had him in the practice squad for a few minutes. Scott returned to DC, where he remains this year. * DL DeVere Levelston . Levelston was signed by the Seahawks as a UDFA out of SMU in 2024, but did not survive final roster cuts and was a practice squad guy all the way through mid-December. This is his second year in the UFL. * DL Kyon Barrs . Much like Levelston, Barrs was a preseason body in August, but his practice squad stay in 2024 was so short that he wasn’t even on the Week 1 PS. * CB Carlton Johnson . After having a top 30 visit with the Seahawks in 2024, Johnson went undrafted out of Fresno State before signing with Seattle. He did not make final roster cuts and is entering his second UFL season, having played with Dallas last year in a non-starting role. * LB Michael Barrett . The former Michigan Wolverine was traded to the Seahawks for Mike Jackson Sr, who’s flourishing on the Carolina Panthers. Barrett didn’t make Seattle’s active roster and has been unable to hold down an NFL roster spot. Was on a Seahawks regular season roster but never played in a game * WR Gary Jennings Jr . Man, he really never panned out. Jennings was a fourth-rounder by the Seahawks in 2019 who made the active roster, never played in a game, and was waived midseason. Even in the UFL he’s been more of a returner than a receiving threat, but he did win a UFL title with Birmingham in 2024. Previously played for the Seahawks but coaches in the UFL * WR Ricky Proehl . Ricky may be best known as a Super Bowl champion with the St. Louis Rams, but Proehl caught 28 passes over two seasons with the Seahawks in the mid-1990s. * OL Breno Giacomini . Yes, Seattle’s former starting right tackle and occasional instigator/agitator during the Legion of Boom era is the OL coach for the newly formed Louisville Kings. To my knowledge, this is his first coaching job of his career. The first UFL game of the year kicks off in Louisville between the Kings and Birmingham Stallions at 5 pm PT on FOX.
