Set primarily inside a prison, 2019's The Mustang explores the bond between an inmate and a horse. Here's where the movie was really filmed.
The Mustang had a fairly easy filming schedule regarding its locations, as the whole film took place at a prison. The 2019 film is based on a real-life rehabilitation program. In the film, Schoenaerts' character Roman is in prison for beating up his wife so badly that she now suffers from brain damage.

Despite the protagonist's violent past, Schoenaerts' acting allowed fans to resonate with and have compassion for his character, especially when Jason Mitchell's Mustang character is murdered by his addict cellmate.
The Mustang Was Shot At Nevada State Prison in Carson City Specifically, Roman's story was filmed in Nevada State Prison. The prison closed in 2012, allowing The Mustang to use all areas of the prison for filming. The prison has since been turned into a museum, but at the time of filming, it was still abandoned. Many of Roman's scenes were in actual jail cells. Roman's was small and cramped, with yellow walls and a bunk bed.
Instead of a large metal gate, there is a door that locks the two in the small room. The cell is also where Roman puts his cellmate into a chokehold, knocking him unconscious before calling in the guards to get him for killing Henry over the horse tranquilizer. Other parts of the prison that are shown are the outside, in small backyard-like areas surrounded by metal gates, where prisoners can spend time isolated from each other.
The Mustang Rehabilitation Program Was Filmed Outside The Prison The most prominent parts of The Mustang were filmed just outside the prison where the Mustang program was set up. These scenes show the horses inside green gates where Roman and other prisoners are taught by rancher Myles how to tame the horses, so they can sell them at an auction.
