Even as the Federal Reserve lowers interest rates, yield opportunities abound.
The Federal Reserve's rate-cutting campaign is expected to continue in 2025, but opportunities for solid yield abound – if you know where to look. The central bank is widely forecasted to make a quarter-point cut at the conclusion of its policy meeting next week. Fed funds futures trading suggests policymakers are likely to follow this rate reduction – the third in this cycle – with a pause in January, according to the CME FedWatch tool .
For starters, Vishal Khanduja, head of broad markets fixed income at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, pointed to agency mortgage-backed securities. "They're a great place to be in," said Khanduja, who is also a portfolio manager on the Eaton Vance Total Return Bond ETF . "We think the fundamentals are strong." He also likes bank loans. Institutional investors snap up bank loans, which lenders make to companies, and benefit from the loans' floating coupon rate.
