Mark Andrews was one of the greatest locks to ever play for the Springboks. We reflect on his career and what he's up to now.
Mark Andrews was a towering figure, both literally and metaphorically, in the annals of Springbok and Sharks rugby.
He quickly rose through the ranks to represent Natal in the Currie Cup, clinching titles in 1995 and 1996, while his Springbok debut came at the age of 22 in 1994. His imposing stature, coupled with his lineout prowess and high work rate, made him a formidable force in the second row.when he was a key member of the Springbok team that lifted the Rugby World Cup on home soil. The victory was a watershed moment for South Africa, and Andrews’ contribution to that triumph cemented his legacy.
The Sharks legend did such a stellar job that he was retained at the back of the scrum for the epic final against New Zealand at Ellis Park, ironically the last time he would start at eighthman.
