Just one week into the basketball season and the first AP Top 25 poll of the season, and the Auburn Tigers are a handful of undefeated who dropped in the rankings. The 2-0 Tigers are ranked 22nd in this week’s rankings, dropping two spots from the initial preseason ranking of No.
20. Auburn will get a chance to see the newly crowned No. 1 Houston Cougars this Sunday in Birmingham in an afternoon matchup. Auburn is one of six teams from the SEC in this week’s ranking. Alabama, ranked 8th in this week’s poll, will host the 2nd ranked Purdue Boilermakers on Thursday night in Tuscaloosa, on ESPN. Joining the Tigers and Tide in the AP poll this week are Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas. One reason Auburn may have slipped in this week’s poll is a near loss in the season opener vs. Bethune-Cookman on Nov. 3. The Tigers were taken to overtime before eventually winning 95-90. Auburn wasn’t the only team to slip despite going through the first week unscathed. Purdue, Texas Tech, Louisville, UCLA, and Tennessee also took a drop in the poll this week.
