Snow levels could fall as low as 1,000 feet in inland areas of the North Bay and East Bay on Tuesday.

A car drives through a flooded intersection at E. 14th Street and 12th Street, in Oakland, during a heavy rainstorm on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021.The rain just keeps on falling over the San Francisco Bay Area. San Francisco has recorded 15.42 inches of rain since Oct. 1, putting 2021 in the top 10 wettest years for the water year to date — great news for the drought-stricken region.

A ridge of high pressure will build over the Great Basin, which spans multiple states including all of Nevada and portions of California, and will keep conditions dry through Sunday. "Right now, it does look like starting on Wednesday we could dry out and end up with drier days. Moving into Thursday, Friday and Saturday ... as we move into the the new year, we will start out drier," said Roger Gass, a forecaster with the weather service.

With high pressure in place, the bone-chilling temperatures that are forecast for the start of this week will rise slightly to seasonal levels by the end of the week with afternoon highs mostly in the upper 40s and 50s and overnight lows in the 30s and 40s, the weather service said. At the end of the week, there will also be less cloud cover, and offshore winds, blowing from inland valleys toward the coast, are expected to develop, the weather service said. While the Bay Area is expected to remain dry Wednesday through Sunday, more rain could be on the way as early as the start of the new year.Long-term weather models show rain starting up again next Tuesday, but it's difficult to predict the weather with accuracy several days out and this forecast could change.

At 5 pm San Francisco 15.04" rain since Oct 1, 2021 is 8th wettest water year to date , wettest since 1983 w/15.70" rain for same period; 1983-1984 La Niña.
