'She threw away all his CDs that day and has hated him ever since.'

Listen, I've lived in Los Angeles for almost a decade. Run-ins with celebrities and"heroes" happen, and sometimes they are the nicest people you've ever met in your life , but other times, you wish you never, evvvvvverrrrrr met them.

"What was your 'never meet your heroes' moment, when you realized someone you looked up to wasn’t special?" A lot of these responses were so disappointing, but I guess a human is a human, and they are inevitably going to let us down. Here's what people had to say about meeting their former heroes:was a big part of my falling in love with film and part of why I went to film school. I worked at a film distribution company in my mid-20s, and I was invited to a small 15-person premiere after-party for a movie directed by one of her, a few other prominent actors, and a few other biz folks. Elizabeth Olsen and Jake Gyllenhaal couldn’t have been nicer.had been for my love of movies, going to film school, and ultimately working in this industry. I had my hand held out to shake hers, and she laughed in my face, did not speak one word to me, and left the party without shaking my hand. I was so bummed, but I laughed it off myself soon after. I no longer work in the film industry, haha."! I worked a movie premiere event for a film he did with Gerard Butler. Morgan was rude to all staff from the moment he walked in. It bummed me out because I was so honored to be in charge of serving the table where he was. Whenever his name is brought up, I’m always reminded of that night."Surprisingly, Gerard Butler was awesome. He asked for my name and always said it with sincerity and kindness when he needed anything. Drank Red Bulls all night and left with two beautiful women arm in arm. Right when he was about to hit the exit, he said, 'Where’s my guy?' He looked over at me, yelled my name, wished me a great night, and instructed all the other actors to leave me giant tips since 'You all burn money on wasteful shit.' Hilarious, and I’ll always remember how down-to-earth he was. Wasn’t my hero, but man, I’m stoked he was there that night." "I got involved with a group that fosters and finds homes for baby animals. My god, the bullying and volatility from the 'lovely' people who ran it. I began to think they worked with animals only because they CLEARLY couldn’t work with humans.""The shelter in my small town is currently having the biggest drama, so much so that it is literally making the front page of the newspaper. Seems the board was running it into the ground, paying themselves while underpaying employees and leaving a lack of funds left for the animals. Now they're all throwing each other under the bus via social media and letters to the editor." "My middle school science teacher met Bill Nye. Up to that day, you could count on at least one reference to the man each week. I don't believe I ever heard his name leave her mouth again after that day.""Katy Perry. She was attending Karl Lagerfeld's birthday at a restaurant I worked at in NYC. She was dismissive and mean to everyone, and accused the staff of stealing her phone at the end of the night." "I was on a small PR team for a school district when a very popular, longtime local news anchor retired. She was an alumnus and joined our team after retiring from the news. Everyone was very excited, including me. I’d watched her growing up. So, of course, she was a nightmare." "Ozzfest 2003. I was 16, and it was my first festival with an all-access pass without a parent accompanying me. I could see in the distance my rock god hero, David Draiman, from the band Disturbed. I was obsessed with their first album, and he was walking towards me. I moved closer to him, trying to get his attention, and once he noticed me, he rudely brushed me off and just kept moving.""Zak Wylde, Ozzy Osbourne's then-guitarist, witnessed the whole thing and pulled me aside. I can’t remember exactly what he said, but something along the lines of 'not everybody is at their best every day,' and that it was no reflection on me. Just the sweetest man. 20+ years later, whenever I hear people saying that they recently met him or whatever, I always say that he was a dick to me when I was in high school." "I thought my CEO was larger than life when I was in college and trying to get internships. Now that I’ve started at the company, he’s just another asshole who’s better at drinking than anyone I know." "I met Seth Rogen, and he was such a rude, unapproachable person. NOTHING like his giggly stoner persona. He acted like a self-important elite." "Back before he was canceled, Joss Whedon was on my 'hero filmmakers' list. Then I met him at a convention, and he was a prick." "I used to sell merchandise at a Broadway show. The director of the show was someone I had been a big fan of since I was a child, so I was really pumped to get to work in the same building as them and see them every day. I wanted to be a theatre director at that point, and that director was a huge part of the reason why. One day, I was cleaning up the merch booth and was bent down behind it so if you walked through the lobby, you wouldn't see me. The director walked out of the theatre and was screaming at this other person about how shitty the show was, how none of it was their fault, and everything was everyone else's fault." "They were screaming about the costume designer being awful, the script being garbage, the set not looking good, etc. And all I could think was: they co-wrote the script, they directed the show, and had control over every aspect of it. They approved all of it. How the fuck is any of it someone else's fault? I lost all respect for them that day." "I'm old, but there was a Chicago newspaper columnist, Mike Royko. I loved reading his column every day, from when I was a teenager and on. He was a big name, and he helped shape my politics as well as my love of journalism. One night, an employee and I walked over to a local bar/grill to pick up food. Royko was there. While we waited for the food, I walked up to say hello to him. I was in awe. He was obviously very drunk. He dismissed me, rudely telling me to go away." "Melissa Etheridge. She was performing at Pride, which always has ASL interpreters for the stages. Most of the time, interpreters are put on the very corner of the stage by the speakers, a good way away from the performer. Etheridge threw an absoluteover the interpreters being on the stage at all . So they were put on shaky box-like things that were the same height as the stage, and she threw a fit again.""Interpreters finally got put on shorter boxes, which made it super difficult for us Deafies to see them, and the boxes were so unstable that someone had to literally keep a hand on the working interpreters to stabilize them while they signed. Ruined my years of baby queer worship instantly, because imagine your ego being so big that basic accessibility threatens it?" "One of the most famous baseball players in the history of the sport called me the f-slur when I was 13, circa 2000. I didn’t even want an autograph; I just wanted to tell him he was my hero. I mean, I am a card-carrying f-slur, but he didn’t know that, he isn’t, I was 13, and he can get absolutely wrecked. Asshole." "I went to a BJ Novak book signing, and he could barely disguise his disgust at HAVING to interact with the crowd who paid to go see him." "I was a spooky kid who always loved dark and whimsical things, so to no one's surprise, I eventually worked for a magician who was fairly well renowned. Absolute nightmare of a person. Meticulous is fine, but he did not respect anyone but himself. Eventually, I too disappeared into thin air." "Bob Baffert, the legendary racehorse trainer who trained two Triple Crown winners. When I was in college, I was on the track at Del Mar and had a genuine interest in meeting him and chatting about the sport, and I was given the opportunity. This wasn’t some random 'sighting in the wild,' rather a curated, 'Hi, Bob, I’d like you to meet two students interested in hearing more about your career trajectory.'""I stuck out my hand during the introduction, only to be rebuffed with, 'I don’t have time for this.' Done. His record speaks for itself. He’s a legend. But I surely didn’t hate it when he was suspended. Fuck that guy." "My friend was a HUGE Bon Jovi fan; die-hard in love with him. He came to our city for an event and took a tour of her mom’s factory. My friend waited for hours to get a glimpse. When she had the chance to talk to him, all she wanted was an autograph and a photo. His answer? 'I’m not a fucking free clown, get out of here.' She threw away all his CDs that day and has hated him ever since. I believe she was 17 when this happened.""As a kid who grew up loving wrestling, I got the chance to meet Edge back in the day when he was doing a signing at Toys"R" Us, and man, that guy was a dick. We waited two hours to meet him, and I was so excited, but he didn't give me the time of day and acted like he didn't want to be there. My dad wasn't even allowed to take a picture with him and me. Dude singlehandedly turned me off of wrestling. And no, he wasn't living the gimmick. Dude was just an asshole.""The most disappointing part is the massive volume of literature he's written that clearly demonstrates he understands how evil his behavior is." "I went to train at a fairly prestigious hospital under the direction of one of the most well-respected surgeons in the field. Not only did half the faculty quit when I arrived, but the surgeon was an unrepentant ass. Sexist, gross, infidelous, and disinterested — it was a total let-down. He was technically excellent, but impressively checked out." "In the military, I worked for a dude who was famous inside the field for receiving a medal one level below the Medal of Honor. All through training, I heard stories about him, and instructors would tell us we'd never be able to do what he did. He did do some heroic shit. He and his team were in a real bad firefight; he got shot a few times and had a developing tension pneumothorax. While being treated, he continued to do his job and likely prevented more people from being killed. However, the dude was a massive cockbag." "Terrible shot, cocky, loud, spotlight ranger type of dude who was more or less resting on his laurels for getting the decoration he got. Then I worked for him and found out his tactics and job knowledge were kinda shit. Then I found out he actually campaigned to have his original medal upgraded. He was kind of a bitch to everyone else on the team. I really looked up to that dude in training and was excited to be working under him. Afterwards, I really understood the 'never meet your heroes' thing." "Anthony Bourdain. Absolute monster of a person. I grew up poor, like dirt poor, and idolized him for a long time because I thought he really stood up for the little guy, but that was a facade. He was a stuck-up, sexist, arrogant asshole. And the worst thing is when I talk about my experience meeting him, nobody wants to believe me because when someone dies by suicide they have to be martyred, and you can never say anything about them again." "Seeing so many great members of the scientific and academic community like Stephen Hawking in the Epstein files was heartbreaking." And finally,"My faith is important to me, and seeing a lot of my older faith mentors enthusiastically support Donald Trump despite his very obvious moral corruption was heartbreaking."Have you ever met a hero and had a less-than-stellar experience?
