Sony Pictures Television announced Thursday that they plan to create a spin-off of the iconic game show “Wheel of Fortune” but will gear the challenges toward children and younger audiences.
“There’s such a vast history at Sony Pictures Television with properties that we could play around with and reinvent, introducing a whole new generation of kids to them,” Joe D’Ambrosia, executive VP and general manager of SPT—Kids,While details of the new game show are unclear, it was reported that several of the challenges will involve physical and comedic challenges that will help contestants earn letters.
Fans of the game show revealed this is not the first time the syndicated game show has been reincarnated for a younger demographic.tweeted one die-hard fan. “There was in fact a kids’ version of WOF before. It was called “Wheel 2000” and it aired on CBS on Saturday mornings in 1997 and 98. Some episodes are on YouTube.
“As a child of the 90s I remember another time they tried to make a kid version of Wheel of Fortune,”
