In a move that's becoming all too familiar, another Austin staple will be closing one of its locations in the next couple of years.If circumstances don’t change

“Oh, please don’t tell me that they’re closing!” said Wheatsville Food Co-Op shopper Kate Anderson.In the latest version of“Disappointed. It’s been here so long,” said shopper Caryl Price. “It’s been here since I moved to Austin in 1982.”

Wheatsville Food Co-Op has been serving Austinites for nearly half a century, but Bickford says Project Connect will impact the store greatly.Bickford says he expects sales to decline because shoppers will find it difficult to enter the parking lot and make it nearly impossible to receive deliveries from large trucks.

The engineering and design process for Austin Light Rail Phase 1 is in the early stages and Austin Transit Partnership will continue to work with our community on those plans. The project is several years from a final design. However, we can confirm there is no conflict with the building Wheatsville Food Co-Op currently leases on Guadalupe and minimal impact on its parking and pedestrian access. This location is near a planned station.
