Yvette Porter Moore, a genealogist, public historian, and cultural practitioner who researches Black history in San Diego County poses for a portrait on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024 in San Diego, California. Yvette Porter Moore started with her own history. When she was 18, she started researching her biological parents and their families. Then, her adopted mother, who raised her, wanted Porter Moore to help with genealogy research for her memoirs .
