I have a garden. It’s just a small plot in the back of our Brooklyn townhouse that was nothing but a petite expanse of scrubby dirt, Japanese knot weeds and piles of unwanted bricks when we moved in in 2010. Oh, and the enigmatic remains of a cistern.
Then we hired a thoughtful landscape architect with a soft, reassuring Kentucky accent, and bit by bit, our “garden” turned into something you might actually want to Instagram. The weeds were vanquished, if not the mosquitoes. The plants arrived. The easy-to-overthink process of choosing outdoor pillows began. We started to live something approximating the “good life” back...
