Jasson Domínguez's first impression with the Yankees has been historic, but the 20-year-old phenom has a long way to go as he auditions for a starting spot in next spring's lineup.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone praised Domínguez for his confidence and comfortability on offense. Throughout this homestand, the skipper has reiterated that anxiety is the enemy of a hitter, something that Domínguez is immune to at a young age.
“It’s on hitters to constantly be able to process that and make their own adjustments,” Boone said Thursday afternoon. “When you have the ability to lay off pitches, that’s ultimately one of the biggest things to be a successful hitter. It’s not so much what you hit, it’s a lot of times what you don’t swing at. I think he has that ability.”
. “When you get a guy that has the foundation of knowing the strike zone, it’s such a huge win because we can just build on top of that. From there, we just need to make sure he makes contact and make sure that the contact is not on the ground.” The impression in the Yankees’ clubhouse so far is that this prospect is well on his way to recognizing his potential.
