Penn State's final practice of spring has traditionally been the Blue-White game. But many major programs had made signicant modifications to that 'game' in recent years.

Penn State coach Matt Campbell addresses the media at a press conference at Beaver Stadium on Feb. 4, 2026. Joe Hermitt | jhermitt@pennlive.comPSU added 40 transfer players, many from Campbell’s former team, Iowa State.

The Lions also worked hard to retain a large number of 2025 Penn State players who began their careers as James Franklin guys. And Penn State’s 2026 recruiting class includes 15 high school players, many who enrolled in January to participate in spring drills.Plus, Campbell made it sound Wednesday like there will definitely a Blue-White game at some point in the spring. “Spring practice, I am a huge believer,” Campbell said during his afternoon news conference inside the Beaver Stadium media room. “Anytime you have 15 practices, the unbelievable value of what spring practice has to look like, especially as you build a team, I think critically important. “I think what I’ve always believed in that 15th practice is. what does that look like? I do think it’s critically important for us. “ Pat and I are deciding how we’ll do the Blue and White game and what that’ll look like. We’ll certainly do something, and that information will get out here hopefully next week, in terms of what that will look like.”Campbell wants his players, especially the new ones, to get used to performing at Beaver Stadium in front of fans. Campbell, his assistants and the PSU medical staff have to make some decisions on players coming off injuries. For example, PSU veteran quarterback Rocco Becht, a three-year starter for Campbell at Iowa State, had to deal with a pair of upper-body injuries last season. Becht“I don’t want the first time Rocco Becht to throw a pass is his first game in there with fans. I think it’s really important for this team to be able to get out there. “Again, we’ve got a lot of guys coming off injury, so what does that look like? How do we go practice? “But I think for our fan base to see us on that field and for us to be able to be out in that stadium with our fans, I think, before we play a game, I think is critically important.”
