Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said she will declare a state of emergency on homelessness on her first day in office.

, she added:"If we come together and focus on solutions rather than jurisdictions, on linking arms rather than pointing fingers, we will save lives in our our city. That is my mission as your mayor."

Bass did not reveal the specifics of the emergency order, but she recently pledged to find interim or permanent housing for 17,000 people in her first year in office. More than 69,000 people are experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County, according to a report from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority in September.
