The Cowboys’ new cornerback made an impressive play during practice and involved a young fan in his celebration.
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Kaiir Elam hoists 4 year-old Kenneth Chambers, 4, into the air after he made a big interception of wide receiver Jalen Tolbert during a training camp practice play in Oxnard, California, July 26, 2025.
Elam went to the crowd and grabbed the kid form his fathers arms and celebrated with teammates. On Saturday, when Elam snagged a Dak Prescott pass, he ran toward the fans behind the sidelines and lifted up 4-year-old Kenneth Chambers like Simba in the“I’m just excited, man,” Elam said. “I’m just trying to give the people a show. What they paid to come see, that’s all.” Kaair Elam continues to impress. He makes a great interception undercutting a deep pass to Jalen Tolbert.Asked what was tougher, making the interception or picking up Kenneth, Elam said, “probably the baby. I had to reach over the , my arm ain’t that long.” The Cowboys acquired Elam from the Bills this offseason, giving up a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round selection Elam has earned first-team snaps going back to the offseason practices when he recorded a pair of interceptions. On the second day of practice, Elam made a sliding interception of a Prescott pass.On Saturday, Elam had inside position on receiver Jalen Tolbert, and while the pass was sailing away from him, Elam caught up to it and got both feet in bounds before beginning the celebration.“It’s a blessing, it’s a privilege to be a Cowboy, I’m grateful,” Elam said. “Last year, I was inactive a lot of games, my hunger for football grew and grew and grew and just learn and grow from it.”Booker got the majority of the snaps with the first-team offense in the first three practices. Not so on Saturday. “I’m just out here and doing whatever the team needs me to do,” Jones said. “Whether I come out and the coach says I go out with the ones, if coach says I’m with the twos, I’m with the twos. If he says three, I’m with the threes. I’m out here to play football, no egos. Wherever he want me to go, I’ll go.”“Book went to one of the best schools in the country, went to Alabama,” Jones said. “He came in, he’s willing to work. You can tell he’s going to be a great player in this league for a long time. You can see the work ethic; you can see he just wants to keep growing. I told Book when he first got here, he trained in the offseason, ‘I’m here to help you. Whatever you need help with, I’m going to help you. If I see something, I’m here to tell you. I want you to be the best version of yourself. When you go out there Week 1, its time to kick those boys.’ That’s what it’s all about.”Last year, first-round pick Tyler Guyton didn’t see first-team snaps at left tackle until after Chuma Edoga suffered a toe injury. Cowboys officials didn’t believe Guyton was ready for the work with the first team and only moved him up after the Edoga injury. This year, Booker has worked with the first team since the opening day of offseason workouts and training camp practices. The move could also be explained as the team wants to see how Jones looks with the starters because he’s someone that also provides depth.During the opening ceremonies welcoming the Cowboys back to Southern California, fans jeered team owner Jerry Jones about pass rusher Micah Parsons and his hold-in.. Just after the national anthem, some fans yelled at Jones to pay the pass rusher who hasn’t practiced this summer. In years past, Jones normally signs autographs and briefly talks with reporters after the opening ceremony. Not this time. Jones walked off with the mayor of Oxnard, posed for a picture with a fan and left for an apparent meeting with officials from the streaming service Netflix.Right tackle Terence Steele missed practice and wide receiver Parris Campbell injured his lower leg Saturday when he got tangled up with cornerback Zion Childress while running a route. Cornerback DaRon Bland and linebacker Kenneth Murray missed practice as their significant others were having babies. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown , cornerback Trevon Diggs , cornerback Shavon Revel and cornerback Josh Butler were getting rehab work.— Running back Jaydon Blue made a one-handed catch, as Milton threw an off-balance pass that sailed over a defender’s outstretched arm.— Dak Prescott connected with CeeDee Lamb numerous times on Saturday. There was a nice touchdown grab by tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford in the middle of the end zone. — A strong inside run by wide receiver KaVontae Turpin, lining up at running back, saw him go through the A gap for a long gain.Calvin Watkins This is my 15th year covering the Dallas Cowboys. I've covered four head coaches and started covering the beat in Bill Parcells' last season when Tony Romo took over in 2006. And now I'm in the midst of the Dak Prescott/Micah Parsons era.
