Durban - On Thursday, the Health Ministry announced the country's first confirmed coronavirus case. Speaking during a press briefing, Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize, said a 38-year-old South African man had tested positive for coronavirus.

"The patient consulted a private practitioner on March 3 with symptoms of fever, headache, malaise , a sore throat and a cough. The practise nurse too swabs and delivered it to the lab. The patient has been self-isolating since March 3. The couple have two children," the department said. He is currently in self-isolation. The patient did not show symptoms upon his arrival at the King Shaka International Airport on March 1.
