Could the Buckeyes be back in the College Football Playoff with USC's loss to Utah?
College Football Playoff expansion is official, so 2022 might be Ohio State’s last big postseason debate
If OSU makes the playoff field as the 4 seed, it would currently be projected for a trip to the Peach Bowl in Atlanta to play No. 1 seed Georgia. Michigan moved up to No. 2 on Tuesday, and TCU moved up to No. 3. Those undefeated teams play for the Big Ten and Big 12 championships, respectively, on Saturday.
Losses by any of those three teams could shuffle the seeding. If an Ohio State-Michigan semifinal does not materialize, those teams could play for a national championship rematch. Ohio State fans also hoped a TCU loss to Kansas State in the Big 12 championship game could also open a door to the playoff. That path was less certain, since it would only be TCU’s first loss and would be coming against the No. 10 team in the rankings.Ohio State missed the playoff last season after taking its second loss, to Michigan, in the regular season finale. Being invited this season would mean a third appearance in four years and fifth in the nine seasons of the playoff.
