Everything you need to know about the planned walkouts taking place across the UK on Saturday 8 October, and which services will be affected.are set to continue again across the country as part of the ongoing row over workers’ pay, jobs and conditions.
On both Saturday 1 October and Saturday 8 October, more than 40,000 workers from Network Rail and 15 train operators will strike again, the Rail, Maritime and Transport union has confirmed, “effectively shutting down the railway network”. On 1 October – the day before the London Marathon and the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham – only 10% of UK services are likely to run that day.
Other train operators have warned that services could be crowded and disrupted as passengers switch to alternative services. Most have advised to only travel if necessary on strike days.The strikes on 1 and 5 October are set to affect several lines serving London across Network Rail, including: LNER, Southeastern, Avanti West Coast, Greater Anglia, Great Western Railway, GTR and London Overground.
