The Texas Passenger Rail Advisory Committee will look at passenger and freight rail service options along I-35 and across the state
Dozens of transportation experts and area leaders are coming together to discuss passenger rail possibilities along the I-35 corridor — an attempt to move past the San Antonio -to-Austin rail effort that imploded in 2016. The newly-formed Texas Passenger Rail Advisory Committee recently signed a charter and made plans to meet the first Monday of each month, according to a joint announcement from Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai and Travis County Judge Andy Brown .
-to-Austin commuter rail? Local officials trying to revive the idea. Interest in reviving the San Antonio-to-Austin rail plan has been growing for about a year. Officials hope that a passenger train could help alleviate congestion along I-35 and strengthen regional ties. But discussions often circle back to concerns over the collapse of the Lone Star Rail District, which spent least $25 million to develop commuter train service between the Alamo City and Austin.
