MANILA -- Veteran film producer Lily Monteverde did not mince words in describing the impact of the corona virus pandemic on the local entertainment industry.
“We’re in paralysis, no business, no nothing," the 80-year old movie icon, known as Mother Lily, old ABS-CBN News.
“It is an end and a beginning for the industry,” Monteverde said wryly, noting that they had to stop the production of two of her upcoming projects, the Joshua Garcia-starrer "Mga Kaibigan ni Mama Susan," co-produced with Star Cinema and megged by Chito Rono ; and "Mommy Issues," directed by Joey Reyes with Gloria Diaz, Pokwang and Sue Ramirez. She and her daughter, Regal Films producer Roselle Monteverde, are particularly concerned on the fate of actors.
But Roselle also pointed out that the new entertainment media will only thrive in a post-pandemic scenario with a strong internet structure, which can be easily accessed. “We still don’t have the same structure of other countries,” she said. Aside from movies in production, Viva had to postpone major projects like the Metro Manila Summer Festival, and the Miss Manila, Mutya Pilipinas and Miss Asia Pacific international pageants. A planned new concert of Sarah Geronimo in November or December was also cancelled. Viva’s shows and library of movies can also be accessed on cable. Meanwhile, SM is hoping for a turnaround soon enough after the coronavirus crisis.
