In light of the growing spread of the virus, here’s what we know about how a pandemic response might unfold in Canada

With COVID-19 outbreaks in Iran, Italy and South Korea, and new cases outside China exceeding those identified at the epicentre of the outbreak for the first time, a global pandemic is becoming increasingly likely. World Health Organization officials have repeatedly said that, while they’re still hopeful that the novel coronavirus can be contained, now is the time to prepare for the worst.

“For example, critical workers sustain the flow of electricity as well as natural gas and petroleum. These critical goods and services are part of a vast, interconnected system serving all of North America. Beyond energy and power, other critical infrastructure and key resource sectors, from manufacturing operations to transport, banking systems to food delivery service and the ability to provide trained medical personnel could also be affected.
