The Browns can be patient in Friday night's second round of the NFL Draft.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s going a little too far to say the draft has fallen the Browns’ way so far considering they don’t even go on the clock for another 21 picks to start Friday night, but they’re in good shape after sitting out the first round.
The most significant development for the Browns was the run on the second group of wide receivers that happened at the end of the first round. Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers and Rome Odunze were always destined for the Top 10. What mattered to the Browns was what happened when the next tier started moving. Will the Browns trade down from No.
There’s talent still on the board, but there are teams at the top of the second round who could look to add pass catchers. Buffalo, New England, Washington and the Chargers currently hold four of the first five picks and all could be in the market for a receiver. Arizona, who already has Harrison and is the other team in the first five, likely isn’t looking to add another so soon.
It would allow some enticing defensive ends or tackles to fall to them. If, suddenly, they can’t get into the range of Troy Franklin, Adonai Mitchell or Keon Coleman -- to name a few -- they could turn their attention towards edge rushers like Adisa Isaac or Austin Booker or maybe a defensive tackle like Braden Friske. The point is Berry is going to be able to match the best player available with need relatively easily without doing too much maneuvering.
