Some may be wondering what to do with their pumpkins now that Halloween is over. Sister station KOCO took this question to experts to find different ways to dispose of pumpkins while being environmentally friendly.
Natalie Evans with OKC Beautiful, a nonprofit organization in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, explains that a lot of pumpkins go to landfills each year.'Whenever we're sending organic material – like pumpkins – to a landfill, the way that it decomposes anaerobically puts off methane gas. So, it actually affects our air quality, as well as just the amount of space we're taking up in our landfills,' Evans said.Experts say there are a number of environmentally responsible ways to get rid of the pumpkins that don't involve them going to the landfill or shriveling up on your stoop, including composting the gourds, feeding them to certain kinds of animals and donating them.Some of those methods can be fun for the whole family.Learn about eco-friendly ways to get rid of your pumpkins in the video player above
