What to do in a dental emergency in Greater Manchester as people 'forced to pull out own teeth'
A new report has found that people have been forced to pull out their own teeth because they cannot get or afford an NHS dentist – making advice on what to do if suffering a dental emergency increasingly important.
A roundtable hosted by the committee in June also heard accounts of patients extracting their own teeth at home, as well as people feeling isolated due to worsening oral health. The report said there is a 'significant regional variation' in access to NHS dentistry. “The service is available from 8am to 10pm every day, including weekends and bank holidays. When you call, you will be assessed by a healthcare professional who can provide self-care advice or book a face-to-face appointment, if needed.
The NHS is prioritising those needing emergency treatment such as threats to life and limb, critical care, neonatal care, and trauma. The public should only call 999 or go to an emergency department if it is a medical or mental health emergency, when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.
When to go to A&E More generalised advice from the NHS says: “Dentists are open for urgent and routine treatments. If you're registered with a dentist, you can contact the surgery by phone or in person. You might have to wait for an appointment if it's not urgent.”“If you need to see a dentist out of hours:
