The survivors of a society that hates gender-marginalized people walk among us. The threat begins in childhood. Michele Goodwin, a legal professor at the University of California, Irvine, and author of, recently wrote an op-ed for. Impregnated by her father after years of sexual abuse, Goodwin got an abortion at age 12, which she says saved her life. She went on to emancipate herself from her parents, and now writes about the need to protect bodily autonomy.
Goodwin points out that more than 80% of the girls in some states’ juvenile justice systems have experienced sexual or physical violence. Neither Mississippi nor Texas’s abortion bans
