In your City Press Sport today: Chaos as Safa legal head drops bombshell; Baxter gives Tau full marks as he outlines Afcon plans; Caster is not done with IAAF, her lawyer warns
In a drama-filled week, Safa head of legal affairs Tebogo Motlanthe spent two days in a police cell after being arrested at the OR Tambo International Airport on Saturday and on Tuesday dropped a bombshell by resigning from the national football governing body. Motlanthe and acting Safa chief executive Russell Paul confirmed the resignation but it emerged that the two parties were set to “sit down” on Monday to discuss the matter.
The coach hailed the 24-year-old for being “a good example for South Africans playing abroad” in light of the striker being nominated for Player of the Season in the Belgian second division.Caster Semenya will consider all options available to her to challenge the decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport to uphold the IAAF’s controversial ruling to only allow some woman athletes to compete if they artificially lower their natural testosterone levels.
Ironically, the manager in charge of the Reds in that 2013/14 season, Brendan Rodgers, now has a chance to enable Liverpool fans to put that trauma behind them.
