In a week when hundreds of thousands of grant recipients were left in the lurch without their grants due to issues at Postbank, City Press has learnt that the department of social development returned over R15 billion of social relief of distress grants to National Treasury in the past financial year.
In Sesotho, the name ‘Boipatong’ means “a place of shelter”, or “a place to hide”. Yet the people of this unassuming township on the West Rand of Gauteng had no place to hide when, on the night of June 17 1992, an estimated 300 armed men from Inkatha descended on the community and killed 45 people.Financial woes are piling up for former actor and social media influencer Tebogo Thobejane, who appears to have vanished into thin air with a luxury vehicle that is still under financing.
