Ohio State football's less aggressive defensive approach has worked, but does Penn State really believe Jim Knowles won't be on the attack?
Take this week, for instance. Penn State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich and Knowles worked together at Oklahoma State in 2018. Then they faced each other last season in Beaver Stadium. Yurcich, a former OSU quarterbacks coach himself, surely came into the season with a preconceived notion of Knowles as a play caller.
“We have to go off what they’ve shown this year,” Allar said. “I mean, we’ll be prepared for everything. “... And this defense kind of forces you out of that a little bit. It’s got to be more specific to this defense and how they play. So you just don’t have the accumulated reps against this type of defense.”
Olu Fashanu, the NFL prospect left tackle who anchors this offensive line, put his trust in his own position coach, Phil Trautwein. Tuimoloau, fellow end Jack Sawyer and defensive tackles Tyleik Williams and Mike Hall Jr. combine for nearly eight pressures per game, according to Pro Football Focus.
