Published: Aug. 15, 2024, 1:13 p.m.COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State’s offensive and defensive coordinators Chip Kelly and Jim Knowles addressed the media on Thursday, shortly after coach Ryan Day made the biggest announcement of fall camp.
On Devin Brown and Julian Sayin: “They both do a really good job. They all competed every single day. It’s a great room to be in.” Kelly added that he’s “not a predictor of anything” in relation to the backup quarterback job, but then made clear that Brown had a really strong camp. Kelly said the team has been forced to Austin Siereveld and Zen Michalski have impressed in fall camp. With an illness going through the team, they’ve had to rotate more over the last few weeks.
Kelly mentioned that the slot receivers he had in the past have been smaller, so wide receiver Emeka Egbuka is in “a box of his own.” But mentioned that the fourth-year wideout can do everything for the Buckeyes in the offense.On the helmet communication: “You’re going to have to kind of see how it goes, how offenses are going to change because of it. We’ll have other guys who are up and prepared in the defense — you want to have veteran guys with it.
On Howard being named the starter: “He’s making all the throws. He stands in the pocket, got great vision, arm strength...To me, he’s making the pinpoint passes, too.”
