This Pirate King was somehow captured and sentenced to death 22 years before the events of One Piece. During his execution, Gold Roger was asked by someone in the crowd about his treasure. Just before he died, Gold Roger revealed that all of his treasure, which had given him “wealth, fame, and power,” was out there to be found.
Why Monkey D. Luffy Wants the One Piece Monkey D. Luffy wanted to be a pirate ever since he was a child. Inspired by the stories told by “Red Hair” Shanks and his crew, Luffy always wanted to be part of a crew and show his courage in adventures. For Luffy, being a pirate is synonymous with freedom, which is something that has defined the character since the very first One Piece chapter.
