Lyndhurst Mayor Patrick Ward said that Cleveland Clinic's decision to demolish the building at its Richmond Road campus, close down services and continue to try and sell the 94-acre site is a 'make-it, or break-it' situation for the community.

LYNDHURST, Ohio -- Cleveland Clinic’s announcement this week that it will remove its services and demolish the building on the 94-acre campus it owns at 1950 Richmond Road in order to enhance efforts to sell the site has Mayor Patrick Ward questioning the partnership between the city and the Clinic.

“Most caregivers working at the Lyndhurst campus have already transitioned to remote, hybrid or alternate on-site locations within our health system. There are a small number of caregivers supporting our wellness services still available at Lyndhurst. These services and caregivers will be transitioned to another clinical space within our health system by March 31, 2023.”

“If it was taken down as part of a plan, I would certainly feel better about that. But we’ve engaged a number of people in trying to get some clarity as to what the end game is. I know they’ve wanted to sell the property, that’s fine. Their process, I’m not even going to speak to. But it wasn’t successful, and COVID certainly didn’t help.”

“It’s not the kind of relationship I have with other facets of the Cleveland Clinic organization. It’s very disappoint that I have to continually ask to be told the truth. That we have to continually ask to validate what they’ve already made somewhat public. It just isn’t right, so I need to try and inspire them in any way I can to some way put our community first.

“I’m not going to talk about why their methodology of marketing the property failed. I mean, it is what it is.
