What happens in Vegas: Why NRL wants to base players away from the Strip

The NRL has dealt with plenty of off-field dramas over the years and wants to avoid another public relations disaster during its American adventure.

The NRL is negotiating a deal for players to stay three kilometres outside the centre of Las Vegas in a bid to ensure its American adventure is not overshadowed by off-field incidents.

There is also a financial benefit to staying away from the Las Vegas Strip, and it is easier to get in and out of hotels for training and gym sessions. The other hotels are the Conrad Las Vegas and Crockfords Las Vegas. The Crockfords is considered the high-end hotel of the precinct. It’s understood the NRL is considering giving the “home” teams preference on which hotel they want to stay at.Accommodation in the centre of Las Vegas would cost the NRL millions of dollars more than a deal at Resorts World.

The Sydney Roosters, who also plan to spend time in Los Angeles, are in discussions with the University of California about a partnership deal.
