A look at how a decrease in interest rates affects everything from mortgages to student and auto loans

Long-term interest rates are falling fast in the U.S. The 10-year Treasury dropped to 1.6% at one point Wednesday. It started the year around 2.7%. Yields have declined for a variety of reasons: trade tensions, fears of slowing global growth and the prospect that the Federal Reserve, which cut short-term rates in July for the first time since 2008, will cut them further.
