Report from Theo Squires after the Carabao Cup clash between Liverpool and Leicester City
With the scores level between Liverpool and Leicester City in the League Cup third round at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp turned to his bench in the 65th minute in search of inspiration.
Dominik Szoboszlai is only eight games into his Liverpool career, but it is already crystal clear that the Hungary captain is a quality player. Consequently, you could be forgiven for wondering why the 22-year-old hadn’t placed higher on the Reds’ transfer wishlist. While it was Nunez that Klopp and the Kop perhaps expected to be Liverpool’s hero against the Foxes following Cody Gakpo’s equaliser, their new number eight had other ideas.
Partly taking on the number eight shirt because of his admiration for Reds legend Steven Gerrard, the Hungarian has already been quietly compared to one of the club’s greatest players since joining the club.
