Alabama football offensive lineman Evan Neal is expected to be a top 10 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, which is good news for him but illustrates the colossal hole the Crimson Tide must fill at left tackle.
The other starting tackle spot is open, too. Chris Owens, who started most of the season at right tackle, had his eligibility expire and is going through the draft process.
Cohen, a 6-foot-4, 305-pound junior, started most of the 2021 season at left guard and could very well fill that spot again. He said Thursday that he's comfortable at guard or tackle, though, and will play where the team needs him. He spent his freshman season working as a tackle. Latham was a five-star prospect and the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2021 class, according to the 247Sports Composite. He received 142 snaps in 2021, 137 of which came while filling in at right guard, according to Pro Football Focus' charting. In the Cotton Bowl against Cincinnati, he got 55 snaps and was Alabama’s second-highest graded lineman behind Neal in pass blocking.
One potential wrinkle at tackle could be Vanderbilt transfer Tyler Steen, who reportedly recently visited the Crimson Tide and is expected to make a decision soon on where he will play next.
