I keep seeing reports on social media ‘that the pubs are still busy’, but I can’t see it – we’ve lost 70% of our trade since Monday’s briefing
On Monday we had 247 people booked in, but by 3pm Tuesday this number had more than halved and then halved again by yesterday. I have no doubt that it will continue to do so over the next few days – the phone hasn’t stopped. Locals have shown love and support via social media and a few have dared poke their heads in in person, but they’re mostly staying inside – and praying that we’re still here when this nightmare is all over.The few guests who have made the effort seem to be here for nothing more than to drown their sorrows and see what’s going on.I had a guy in yesterday who is going to lose his business; this isn’t just about hospitality, everyone is in this together. We’re all at risk.
I am absolutely knackered, I am stressed out of my eyeballs, depressed, fearing for my own job and having to find the strength to combat that feeling and show support for others is a lot of pressure, due to family members having symptoms. I am personally picking up that slack and have not stopped working since Monday, other than to sleep for a few hours.
