The upper-level low pressure system responsible for last weekend's storms could continue to plague us with one last round of storms this week.
Texas is currently experiencing temperatures that are cooler than normal but be ready for the arrival of the winds of change. We need to keep our eyes on a deep trough and cutoff low pressure system present in the Desert Southwest.
This area of low atmospheric pressure is responsible for sending multiple atmospheric disturbances into Texas over the weekend, and it is still active. Weather satellite photos show the system's wide air flow circulation, which covers California, Nevada, and Arizona. Over the next 24 hours, a system of high atmospheric pressure is expected to bring cooler temperatures to Texas. San Antonio on Tuesday will see afternoon temps only as high as 60 degrees, which is more than 10 degrees cooler than the seasonal normal high of 74 degrees. South winds which are expected to take over on Tuesday night will increase moisture and cloud cover, and pull in warmer air, leading to overnight lows that are closer to the seasonal normal of 52 degrees. Most of Wednesday will be dry with temperatures warming to near 70 degrees, however, more wet weather is on the way. The pesky low pressure system out west will provide one last round of showers and thunderstorms as it finally ejects from the southwestern U.S. and heads east across Texas late Wednesday into Thursday. Some of the storms the low pressure system inspires could be strong or severe. The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Central and South Texas under a level 1 of 5 risk for severe weather, which means isolated thunderstorms are possible. “As convection initially develops, a couple of the stronger, discrete cells may be capable of producing isolated large hail,” the weather service in wrote in a forecast discussion Monday for San Antonio and Austin. Behind the storms, dry air will filter in with a warming trend expected Friday and through the weekend. Morning lows will be in the 50s with afternoon highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.
