RB's Leiana Takeda claims all-around championship, edging Granite Hills' Janelle Martinez and Torrey Pines' Mia Carpenter
For the second straight year, Westview High School is the gymnastics champion of the CIF-San Diego Section.
Takeda scored 36.050 points with Janelle Martinez of Granite Hills in second place with 34.850 and Mia Carpenter of Torrey Pines in third with 34.575. “This is crazy,’’ Takeda said. “Winning all-around feels great, especially since gymnastics is not recognized much at my school.Skylar Parga, a junior at Granite Hills, waited her turn on the floor exercise as the final competitor almost three hours into the compulsory session.Parga already owned the CIF record score for the event and tied in last week’s Grossmont League finals.
Despite Granite Hills dropping gymnastics after last season, Parga captured the compulsory all-around title thanks to her record event as well as tying for fifth in the bars with a 9.550.
