A US&R Team from the Federal Emergency Management Agency has been deployed to assist in the aftermath of devastating floods and landslides in Western North Carolina . Caleb Freeman , a member of the Redmond Fire Department from Washington state, is on the ground providing aid. Freeman arrived early Saturday morning and has been working tirelessly since then.
He shared insights into the scale of the disaster, stating that the volume of landslides, flooding, and damage to roads and bridges is unprecedented. He emphasized that this deployment ranks as the third largest activation behind 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina. Freeman highlighted the critical need for basic necessities like food and water in affected areas, noting that many people are facing shortages due to limited access. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to determine the number of unaccounted individuals and those requiring contact. While some on social media have criticized the government's response as slow, Freeman offered a different perspective, explaining that the distribution of resources often favors urban areas over rural ones. He stressed that government assistance is present but may not always be immediately visible to residents
