Feet of snow and flooding rain will impact parts of California early this week:
Feet of snow will pile up in the Sierra.The most significant storm system to impact California since late October has arrived with feet of snow in the Sierra and soaking rain in lower elevations that could trigger flash flooding and debris flows in areas recently burned by wildfires.
Most low elevations in Southern California are expected to pick up 1 to 2 inches of total rainfall. Higher amounts are possible on south and southwest-facing slopes of the Southland mountains below elevations where snow will fall. In the Sierra, a general 2 to 5 feet can be expected, with some totals over 7 feet possible above 6,000 feet.
Roads over the Sierra, including Interstate 80 and U.S. 50, will likely have to be shut down for a time.In Southern California, 1 to 2 feet of snow is possible above 7,000 feet. This will make travel treacherous or impossible above those elevations by Tuesday.Snow, High Winds to Spread Into Plains
