Western Mindanao city sees first death related to novel coronavirus COVID19
ZAMBOANGA CITY - The Western Mindanao region recorded Tuesday its first death related to the COVID-19 pandemic, a hospital here said.
The 94-year-old male patient, a resident of Zamboanga City, tested positive for the novel coronavirus last April 9. He succumbed to respiratory failure secondary to pneumonia before dawn, said Dr. Justin Paber, spokesperson of the incident command system of the Zamboanga City Medical Center. The patient, who had no travel history, likely caught the virus through local transmission, he said. Western Mindanao has a total of 12 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 6 patients who have recovered.
