A series of cold fronts have approached the country, affecting some provinces more than others. In the Western Cape particularly, there have been widespread reports of flooding.

Areas affected include parts of Khayelitsha, Joe Slovo Park in Milnerton, Sir Lowry’s Pass Village, Nomzamo in Strand, Mfuleni, Driftsands, Masiphumelele, Dunoon and Gugulethu. Homeless people in Cape Town say they have no choice but to brave the icy and wet weather conditions on the streets - some because they have nowhere else to go and others because they need to beg for small change for their families.
Abrahams told News24 he lived in a shelter in the area about two years ago but left due to drug withdrawal symptoms. More than 120 millimetres of rainfall fell in the Boland town of Ceres on Sunday and Monday, with surrounding peaks receiving several centimetres of snow. The South African Weather Service issued a series of severe weather warnings for various provinces across the country, effective from Monday.
