Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge explains the decision to make Jack Macrae sub and emphasizes the need to give more midfield opportunities to younger players.
Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge says the decision to make Jack Macrae sub is part of the evolution of his team, emphasising there’s “not an infinite amount of midfield time” as it looks to expose its younger talent on the ball more.raised some eyebrows, with the three-time All-Australian also having started the season outside the senior team after working his way back from a hamstring injury.
“I suppose there’s not an infinite amount of midfield time we can throw around. We’ve probably done that in the past, where we didn’t have the players who can play those forward and wing roles accordingly.“So it’s meant there’s pressure through the team for spots and that’s what’s transpired. Based on last week, Jack did OK, but this was the week for him to be sub.”
Former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley suggested pre-game on Fox Footy that Macrae hadn’t been doing something Beveridge has asked of him, speculating it could be related to defensive pressure.
