The force said it has referred itself to the IOPC following previous contact with Kulsama
West Yorkshire Police has referred itself to the police watchdog over concerns about contact it had with Kulsama Akter before her death.
During a press conference at Trafalgar House Police Station on Monday, Assistant Chief Constable Damien Miller confirmed West Yorkshire Police had referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct A spokesperson for the force then said: "Due to police having contact with Kulsama prior to her death, West Yorkshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
“Due to previous police contact with Habibur Masum and Kulsama Akter, Greater Manchester Police has made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.” ACC Miller told press on Monday that a 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and officers are working to find Masum.
A witness also reported seeing him wearing a grey hoody with the hood up. Police urged anyone who sees him to not approach him and to call 999 immediately. They said a knife was recovered at the scene but it is unclear if he is armed.
