A three-month police operation in West Palm Beach has resulted in 16 arrests and the recovery of various drugs. The operation, 'Not On Our Block,' relied heavily on community engagement through the WPBPD's SaferWatch app.

A three-month-long police operation in West Palm Beach has resulted in 16 arrests, with more expected. The operation, named 'Not On Our Block,' was spearheaded by the Special Investigation Division in collaboration with the organized crime section of the West Palm Beach Police Department.

Acting Chief of the West Palm Beach Police Department (WPBPD) Tony Araujo highlighted the crucial role of community engagement in the operation, noting that many citizens reported suspected criminal activity using the department's SaferWatch app. 'The app helped us get to where we're at today,' Araujo said, emphasizing that it is not for 911 in-progress calls but for reporting neighborhood incidents. The investigation, which is still ongoing, has so far led to the recovery of marijuana, oxycodone, flakka, cocaine, and crack. Araujo noted the significant criminal history of those arrested, stating, 'Out of these 16 individuals, they all have collectively 124 felony convictions.' One of the suspects, 49-year-old Michael Neal, is a Florida Career Offender with 19 felony convictions alone. When asked about the presence of fentanyl in the drugs seized, Araujo said, 'Not yet.' He also mentioned that the investigation into the origin of the drugs is ongoing, involving federal and regional partners. But it’s not just what was being sold — it’s where. Many of the suspects are facing a first-degree felony charge for dealing drugs within 1,000 feet of Alice Mickens Park, at homes just two blocks away. Araujo expressed gratitude to the community for their cooperation and issued a warning to those involved in criminal activities. 'My message to those folks that are involved in criminal activity, especially poisoning our neighborhoods, look over your shoulder. We're not done,' he said. The chief underscored the importance of community involvement in maintaining safety, stating, 'We cannot do it without the community. The police officer can't be on every block and every corner
