Center and The Log Cabin have reopened for 12-step meetings.
Both facilities — located across the street from one another on Robertson Boulevard at Melrose Avenue — have hosted dozens of weekly meetings but locked their doors at the onset of the pandemic. Most meetings offered virtual alternatives via Zoom. As of June 15, the official reopening of the state of California, about 15 regular meetings throughout the week were set to be held in-person at either the Recovery Center or the Cabin.
The Cabin, which has been a key meeting place for 12-step programs since 1948, was threatened with demolition by the city of Beverly Hills, which owns the building, shortly before the pandemic. In April 2020, the building was saved when the Beverly Hills City Council approved a “lease to purchase” agreement with the city of West Hollywood. The $5.75 million sale price also included an adjacent parking lot.
While the facilities do not offer WiFi service, meeting groups can elect to have their meetings as a hybrid live and virtual experience, according to a notice on the Recovery Center website.reported in August 2020 that 13% of people surveyed said they either began using controlled substances or increased their use during lockdown.
