“For more than 80 years, GAF has been an important part of the growth and evolution of West Dallas,” the statement said. “GAF believes these actions to voluntarily wind down operations and rezone the property to meet the future needs of the community are another clear demonstration of its commitment to work with the city and the community.”
“The whole point is we feel GAF no longer has a space in West Dallas because they’ve been polluting our air and environment for the last 80 years,” Reyes said. “You making an application for new zoning, but wanting to keep operating for years in the same regard after the fact makes no sense and is not what we want.”
Janie Cisernos, a leader of Singleton United/Unidos, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
